Application
The paste is based on calcium hydroxide with highly alkaline reaction, ready for direct usage. The product is radiopaque.
It is especially recommended:
- for indirect pulp capping during deep caries treatment;
- for direct pulp capping in case of pulp denudation or wounding, as well as for partial and complete vital amputation method;
- for root canal temporary filling during treatment of chronic apical periodontitis, or infected root canals;
- for temporary filling in immature root canals;
- as an intra-chamber insertion after coronal bleaching of non-vital tooth;
- as an inlay in case of internal resorption.
How to handle the product
Before application, press out a small amount of paste to equalize the pressure in the syringe and ensure appropriate flow of the paste through the needle.
- Direct and indirect pulp capping
When cavity is properly cleaned and dried, apply a thin layer of paste and leave it for drying or dry with air flow (the paste shall be applied directly on denudated or wounded pulp or on the bottom of the cavity near the pulp chamber). Remove paste excess if necessary. The lining
cement shall be applied directly on the paste. The lining should be applied gently to avoid calcium hydroxide paste displacement.
- Root canals filling
Prepare the canal, then rinse it with solutions commonly used in endodontics: i.e. sodium hypochlorite and solutions with chelating-effect (citric acid or EDTA) in compliance with endodontic treatment protocol, and then dry it. The canal should be filled tightly (using Lentulo needle), it is necessary to avoid overfilling. Remove paste excess if necessary. Cavity must be tightly closed.
When used as a temporary filling in case of apical periodontitis, it is recommended to leave it in canal for 1-3 weeks.
- Intra-chamber insertion after coronal bleaching of non-vital tooth
Apply the paste into the chamber, set cotton wool and tightly close the cavity. Leave it for approximately 7 to 14 days and then remove.
- Inlay in teeth with internal resorption
After chemomechanical preparation of the canal and removal of the granulation tissue which is the cause of the resorption, dry the tooth cavity, and then fill the canal and the resorption cavity tightly with the preparation, applying it directly from a syringe equipped with an applicator. Then fill the cavity tightly. After 1-3 weeks, remove the paste thoroughly from the root canal (e.g. by abundant rinsing and ultrasound activation) and after drying, finally fill it.
Technical Tips:
Remove the paste accurately before permanent canal filling or endometry measurement. Hardened paste residues can be crumbled by inserting a K-file on the full working length. You can dissolve too thick or hardened paste with distilled water or calcium hydroxide suspension.
Description of operation
Apex® PASTE is a highly alkaline, calcium hydroxide preparation (pH amount to 12.5±0.5). Properly chosen chemical composition provides fast forming of secondary and reparative dentine. Long lasting antibacterial effect and stimulation of mineralized barriers formation is an advantage of the product. It has also drying activity that has great significance in case of persistent inflammatory exudations in the canal. After insertion into the canal there occurs long lasting Ca2+ and OH- ions release.
Storage conditions
Keep container tightly closed. Do not keep in refrigerator. Keep out of the reach of children. Store in temperature 15ºC to 25ºC. Keep away from sunlight.
After opening, the expiry date does not change provided that the container is tightly closed after each use.
Any serious incident related to the product should be reported to the manufacturer and appropriate agency.
